Does Your Bra Fit Properly?

A calculator can provide a suggested starting point for determining what size of bra you should try. However, a calculator cannot tell you how well that bra will fit you. When trying on a new bra, there are several things to look for.

The Band Stays Level

The band around your upper body needs to stay relatively straight across your chest and not ride up onto your shoulders. When wearing the bra properly, it should provide a sense of security and support but without causing pain or discomfort.

The Cups Fit Smoothly

Check to see if there are persistent spaces, indentations, or breast tissue protruding from the edge of the cup. Cups with different shapes may have variations in how they fit, even when they are marked with the same size.

The Straps Feel Comfortable

Straps should remain in place and not dig uncomfortably into your shoulders. The level of strap tension alone will not indicate the proper size of the bra.

Does a C cup have the same volume in every band size?

No. Cup volume depends upon the band size of the bra. A 30C and 36C do not contain the same amount of breast tissue (cup volume).

Are US and UK bra sizes the same?

Not always. The band label is usually the same, however the cup-letter sequence may vary, especially with larger cup sizes. Use the brand conversion table to help you purchase a bra.

What are sister sizes?

Sister sizes are similar band/cup combinations designed to provide a comparable amount of support. While sister sizes can help you determine what works best for you, there is no guarantee that they will provide the exact same level of comfort.

Should I add four inches to my underbust measurement?

The way you size will depend upon which type of sizing method you use. The calculator we provide is based on a near-even-band sizing estimate. We don't include an extra four inches in our estimates. You should always check the size recommended by the brand that you have selected.
