With the “3D Buildings” layer in Google Earth, anyone can view 3D models of buildings, monuments, fountains, bridges, towers, museums, homes and much more. A Google, anunciou recentemente duas novas ferramentas de navegação, o Google Street View Trekker e o Google Earth 3D para complementar os já existentes Google Earth e Google Maps. O Google Earth 3D, segundo os responsáveis da Google, vai nos trazer representações interactivas 3D de cidades inteiras, dando-nos a sensação de estarmos a sobrevoar os locais visitados, através de um helicóptero.

Para conseguir atingir este feito, foram usados aviões equipados com câmaras especiais. Os aviões sobrevoaram então diversas vezes os mesmos locais, para que as câmaras pudessem recolher as mesmas imagens de diferentes ângulos. As imagens foram posteriormente combinadas por uma rede de computadores, através de um processo chamado estereofotografia, para recriar cidades inteiras em 3D.

Uma das novidades anunciadas pela Google é o novo serviço offline do Google Maps,, que será lançado brevemente e vai permitir a utilizadores do Android, descarregar previamente os mapas das cidades que pretendem visitar e depois poderem visualizá-los, sem terem necessidade de possuírem ligação à internet, a grande vantagem é a economia de tráfego de internet e independência dos acessos de internet.

Google Earth acquires the best imagery available, most of which is approximately one to three years old. The information in Google Earth is collected over time and is not in ‘real time’. For example, it’s not possible to see live changes in images.

3D imagery in Google Earth 2013

With Google Earth 7.0 2013 for Android, you can see complete 3D representations of buildings and terrain throughout metropolitan areas. 3D imagery provides an immersive experience as you explore, just like the view you’d have if you were flying over the city.

As you zoom in, buildings and terrain will start to appear in 3D. Once you can see the buildings, pan, zoom, tilt and rotate to explore the 3D environment.

To pan, place one finger on the screen and drag.
To rotate, place two fingers on the screen and twist to spin the view around a center point on the globe.
To zoom in, Place two fingers on the screen and move them apart. Pinch your fingers together to zoom out.
To tilt up, touch the screen with two fingers and drag downward. To tilt down, touch the screen with two fingers and drag upward.
You can view 3D imagery when you’re using Google Earth 7.0 2013 on the following devices:

Android – any dual core device running Gingerbread (Android version 2.3) or greater
Note that 3D imagery is not available for all locations.
